yesterday at work i was on the dorr for 3 HOURS! apart from it been amazing boring it was actually really interesting. after standing there for so long you begin to just watch people and how they behave. it’s amazing how diffrent people are and just all the little idiosyncrasies (cant spell) that make people who they are and define them from others. There was this one fine looking lad about our age who played ‘mr smooth’ in his spic and span suit trying to sell raffle tickets or something along those lines. when his mum came to pick him his attitude totally changed. he just became really relaxed and just like a teenager again as he didnt have to impress others any more. it just made me think when we are potraying characters we really have to think about how they would be acting in this situation and what manerisms make them, them. you cant just put on an accent and hope for the best. you must be inside this charcter and re-cat they way that they would.

anyway…this w/e i am researching elvis..aaron ’sexy rock’/sex drugs rock n roll and kendall comercial pop and future music styles. we conjured up an idea that elvis literally becomes a king after everyone calling him ‘the king’. his power gets to him and then ‘the king has left the building’ also we want to show how while everyone was worshipping elvis there were others who didnt (individualism v conformity) perhaps those who worship him are in a trance like state..i dont no just an i dea we will be looking into that idea further next week on how we will convey that.

apart from the riots our froup has made alot of progress with about 50% of the ensemble fully blocked and scripted. By the end of next week we hope to have most of it completed with plenty of time left for editing and rehersal. we also discovered a way to move the breifcases around the room for a transition between scenes. we sing a couple of lines of ‘another brick in the wall’ and places the briefcases for the next scene. it works well because it is sort of like we are building a brick wall in a way.

p.s clarry we all took the liberty of each getting a key cut so now we can access the school at all hours! im sure u wont mind!

this week our group has got so much productive work done. We continually are comming up with new great ideas and we just go with it. We all seem to bounce of each others ideas which makes it even better. At the end of the lesson we go home and script what we have done so its not forgotten. We have large chunks of scenes blocked and we have really explored how slave music led into gospel which led into hiphop and it shows how it became commercialised and how people begun to ’sell out’. Now we are working on contrasting managers to show how now days all they want is money ‘kaching’ where as the old managers were more about the music and the actually cared. Sam scripted a great scene for that which works perfectly! My favorite scene so far is the one with vanilla ice with our killer dancemoves!!

The otherday our group was working on a large portion of our ensemble which shows the transformation from slavery to gospel to hip hop music which slowly became more and more commercialised. it was my job to try and script the gospel scene and i have been looking on youtube at gospel music and documentary thins and it has been really insightful. ‘oh happy days’ was one of the first, if not the first commercialised gospel song sung by the edwin hawkin singers. initially it was banned from churches and even homes because it was to ‘wordly’ but no days younger generations consider it traditional music. im still tossing a few ideas around but i have an idea of how to make the scene work and begin to show the commercialistaion of gospel/ hip hop music.

Sorry for my bloging absence!

Our group has come a long way since my last blog. We now have a fairly sturdy storyling going and plenty to work off and fill in to make a very rich performance. I came up with the an idea that maybe the ‘disposable pop stars’ or maybe their manager are coin operated. They only run off money highlighting how now days the music industry is soo money orientated. Also we have to encorperate alot more SONG i think we should just bust out into random song, well at least i have the erge to do that anyways and i do do it…when no1 is home at home!

Last night we went to watch the play ‘exit the king’ with himself geoffrey rush! the play was amazing, it really kept the whole audience captivated until the end. I really enjoyed it.

Today both groups received their props that we have to incorperate into our ensembles! My group got 4 breifcases (3new one old) while the other group got 4 square cusion things (4 pink 1 blue). I am excited about using these props as it will be a challenge but hopefully it enhances our overall performance. We brainstormed several ideas for the use of them in todays lesson.

We also decided that because you weren’t there today Clarry we would take the liberty of swapping our props. So half each. We also swapped all of our ideas..oh and we combined our ensemble groups(thought it would make life easier!) We didn’t think you would mind!

I havn’t made a blog entry for a while as last time i made one…lets just say the computer nearly didn’t get to see the next day.

Anyways…i am really liking alot of the ideas our group is comming up with. I like the whole concept of the ‘music food chain’ as in what music would still be around if certain artists never existed..how the world would be without them or even imagine a world without music..what would we sing at a birthday party? We have many good ideas now its just puttin gthem into to place. When we perform we really need to work on our conviction, i know its only early days but still. All of our research has all been along the same sort of line so we have similar ideas which work well together so that is working out pretty well. I liked the charcter workshop we did and the ‘audition’ thing we did. It just helped to work out if certain characters would be neccassary or not. I think it would be good to do it a bit futher down the track again just to get an idea what the character would be like and who should play it.

…anyways as I was saying before it deleted, today we performed our first piece of theatre in relation to the ensemble. It went alright but definatly had alot more potnetial and needed more conviction through our characters etc. I think that everyone is still a tad cautious of really getting into this and really exploring all of the potential this topic has. I do believe that oncethe ball really starts to roll it wont stop (if that makes sense!) We really need to overcome our fear of singing because we have no choice for the ensemble but i know it will be fun practising to sing and encorperated the ’sung word’. What I really would like to explore and research is the change songs really have had on the world. I want to see the differences that have come purely from a song or an artist. I have heard lots about it but not personally seen stastics or information etc on how this song or artist has changed the world. I think if I explore this concept it will help me have alot better understanding for the topic.

P.S Clarry this blogging is going to be the death of me!

This is my first blog and im like soo totally excited! We have been working with our ensemble for about a week and did our first workshop on them the otherday. We started with only 5 tablaux and gradually added more and more until it became a scene. The last element we had to encorperate was song. This had us all a little stumped but excited at the same time. I can’t wait to see how the ensembles are going to pan out as both groups will have such different ideas due to the concept being so broad.
